New Release: Modem AI v2.0

AI & Machine Learning October 13, 2026 Mayo Software

Modem AI 2.0 is ready on the Microsoft Store, Google Play, and the Apple App Store for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. iPhone, iPad, and Mac share one listing. The product page (https://mayosoftware.com/apps/modem-ai) has the details and the download badges.

Private. On-device. Worth the wait.

The model runs on your phone, tablet, or computer. Your prompts and replies stay there. There is no account, and no cloud chatbot in the middle. I built it that way so the privacy is not a promise I can quietly walk back.

The wait is real. A reply takes longer than a cloud chatbot, and it can be less polished. That pace is the price of keeping the model with you. The download is about 2–3 GB, once, and the device needs about 4 GB of free memory. After that, chat does not need a connection.

Version 2.0 is the same idea, with a few choices in front of you.

You can pick the pace in plain language. Phi-3 Balanced is the suggested start for most phones and PCs. Phi-3 Snappier aims for a quicker reply. On Windows, Phi-3 Faster uses a capable GPU when you have one, and the CPU when you do not. Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Android stay on the CPU. Every option runs on the device, and you can switch later.

You can dictate. Tap the mic, speak, and read the words before they send. Recognition stays on the device, including on Android. If the device cannot do that, Modem AI tells you. It does not send the audio off to a cloud speech service.

Conversations stay on the device, and you can come back to them. Replies can include lists, tables, and code. Theme, temperature, and reply length are there when you want them.

We do collect anonymous usage statistics, such as performance, so the app can improve. However, we never collect your prompts or your replies, unless you explicitly choose to share something. If the app hits a snag, you can send an anonymous report. That report does not include the chat unless you add it.

The app is free. There is no subscription.

If something is slow, wrong, or missing, the feedback form in the app is how I hear about it.
